BYC Names Inaugural Ambassador of the Month, Meghan Ketterman of Contract Construction
BYC Names Inaugural Ambassador of the Month for June 2019, Meghan Ketterman of Contract Construction!
Build Your Career is pleased to announce our first inaugural BYC Ambassador of the Month for June, 2019. A hearty congratulations goes out to Contract Construction’s Dr. Meghan Ketterman! Meghan not only serves as a CAGC Foundation Board Trustee, but she is also a very active Build Your Career Ambassador. Meghan is also the driving force behind leading classroom presentations and school outreach efforts throughout several South Carolina schools, participating in career fairs and facilitating local internship and apprenticeship programs all on behalf of Contract Construction in an effort to attract students into our industry.
Long-time Carolinas AGC member Contract Construction was founded in Ballentine, SC in 1984 and provides construction services throughout the state, with offices in the Midlands, Upstate and Lowcountry areas in South Carolina. Contract was co-founded in 1984 by CEO John Farley and since its inception, the company has taken great pride in building a “strong team approach”—and through their ongoing outreach efforts with South Carolina students, they continue to build the next team of future construction workers here in the Carolinas. Several years ago, President of Contract and current CAGC Board Member, Greg Hughes, realized that in order for Contract to be even more impactful promoting workforce development for the industry throughout the Carolinas, their company needed to have someone designated to fill that role full-time. Dr. Meghan Ketterman, Director of Business Development, joined the Contract Team in 2017 to do just that!
Dr. Meghan Ketterman has an extensive professional background deeply rooted in the educational sector, having graduated with her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Agricultural Education from Clemson University, as well as earning a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Extension Education from N.C. State University. Meghan’s primary focus in her role as the Director of Business Development for Contract Construction is building relationships with new and existing clients in addition to workforce development and recruitment of new talent for the construction industry. She also dedicates a significant amount of her time working with school districts and CTE Directors to build numerous student internship programs with local South Carolina schools for Contract Construction. Meghan’s vast knowledge of the CTE System and her ability to quickly identify the current and future workforce development needs of the industry make her an excellent addition to the team. As a Board Member of the SC Association of Career and Technical Education (SCACTE), Meghan was also the 2018 recipient of the highly prestigious SCACTE “Advocate of the Year” award.
Since joining the Contract Construction Team in 2017, Meghan has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to furthering workforce development on behalf of Contract in the SC marketplace and has also become a champion for promoting careers in the construction industry to future generations of workers. Meghan is diligently committed to bridging the gaps between available Career and Technical Education resources and SC area students in need of career pathway guidance, mentoring and employment opportunities. Dr. Ketterman is a resourceful, high-performing business development director and educator with over 10 years’ experience in secondary and higher education. She is a national award winning educator and continues to be a leader in secondary education by being a thought and action leader in many areas such as workforce development, educational leadership, and business/educational partnerships. Dr. Ketterman has a tremendous passion for Career and Technical Education and helping students gain necessary skills to be "future ready" so they are prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation.
Dr. Meghan Ketterman’s business-like approach to promoting workforce development on behalf our industry, coupled with her desire to facilitate the educational advancement of SC youth personify the characteristics and traits of the term “Ambassador.” Our BYC Ambassadors are the “boots on the ground” representatives of the culture and mission of Build Your Career and are a vital component to the success of our workforce development efforts. They are truly the lifeblood of BYC and without the continued support and participation from our Ambassadors, like Meghan, Build Your Career would be nothing more than a name—a great idea without the power and resources behind it to become effective.
Tammy Ford, BYC Director, said, “Meghan Ketterman has been an instrumental and integral part of the development, launch and success of our newly restructured educational outreach efforts and BYC program development. Naming Meghan as the first BYC Ambassador of the Month is a testament to the leadership and insight she has been able to impart to me as I assumed my new role as the BYC Director, and I will be forever grateful for all the assistance, guidance and mentorship she has bestowed upon me from day one. She was the first CAGC member to reach out to me after my initial hire to schedule time with me to share her expertise and she has continued to be one of my strongest allies ever since.”
Since becoming a Build Your Career Ambassador and joining the CAGC Foundation Board of Trustees, Meghan has been instrumental in assisting with streamlining BYC outreach efforts and program development in SC. She was an extremely active attendee at the recent 2019 BYC Ambassador Summit meetings and even led a group team building activity for 33 attending South Carolina Ambassadors to develop project-based learning activities for fellow Ambassadors to use during their Contractors in the Classroom presentations. Meghan also assisted in the forming of a partnership between Build Your Career and the SC Chapter of SkillsUSA and will serve as the Contract Construction liaison for BYC’s newly formed partnership with REEMERGE—a prison reintegration and employment placement program designed to assist formerly incarcerated individuals with employment placement and career opportunities within the construction and trade industry.
Upon learning of Contract Construction’s own Dr. Meghan Ketterman being named as the first-ever, inaugural BYC Ambassador of the Month, Greg Hughes, President of Contract Construction stated, “Meghan Ketterman has been a great addition to the Contract Construction Team. We hired her because of her passion and dedication to promoting workforce development for our industry and because of her vast knowledge of the Career & Technical Education system. The fact that she was chosen as the inaugural Ambassador of the Month for Build Your Career is a testament to what she brings to the table and just illustrates to us that we most definitely made the right choice in hiring Meghan. She is a tremendous asset not only to Contract, but also to the the industry as a whole. We're extremely proud of her for this accomplishment!”
Carolinas AGC President and CEO, Dave Simpson, also commented on Meghan’s dedication to the Foundation’s Build Your Career program, as well as his excitement in learning of her Ambassador of the Month award: “Carolinas AGC is delighted that Meghan Ketterman/Contract Construction is being named as the inaugural CAGC Build Your Career Ambassador of the Month as they, along with longtime CAGC Board of Directors leader Greg Hughes, are setting the bar for helping bring many promising young people into excellent and well-paying careers in the construction industry.”
On behalf of Carolinas AGC and its Foundation, Build Your Career is proud to name Dr. Meghan Ketterman of Contract Construction as our June 2019 “BYC Ambassador of the Month.” The CAGC Foundation sincerely appreciates Meghan’s contributions to its Build Your Career Program and honors her countless accomplishments and efforts in promoting construction careers and workforce development for the construction and trade industry.
